Speaker’s Report - March 2023

The 12th house - the house of self-undoing or self-fulfilment? - Anita Ings

Our speaker for March was Anita Ings, professional astrologer and passionate teacher of astrology. Anita is also Treasurer of AANSW and a FAA National Council Member. She has served as the FAA President and Vice President since 2006 and Anita is the FAA Executive representative on the FAA Exam Board.

Anita presented an insightful presentation on the labyrinth of the 12th House which is often associated with the subconscious, secrets, seclusion, self-undoing and karma. She made 12th house energies accessible and helps us integrate them in a positive and constructive way.

The 12th house is linked with sacrifice, chronic illness, psychic ability, transcendence and self-fulfilment. It is a water, cadent house which is associated with the collective unconscious. Anita explained that if these energies are not understood or integrated it can lead to a feeling of giving away one’s power and you can experience a lack of boundaries.

Self-sabotage and self-undoing can occur when someone does not have a strong sense of self, their own abilities and find it difficult to accept help. This can lead to a lack boundaries, taking on too much and constantly seeking approval. They can sacrifice themselves for the wrong reasons because they are looking for approval and can become a helper, rescuer and martyr and lose themselves in the process.

It is a house of deep spirituality and transcendence. It is where we want a connection with something greater than ourselves and seek wholeness. Some individuals with planets in the 12th house may be trying to find their own power. Coping mechanisms can be to escape reality through drug addiction or other addictions such as gaming or gambling.

There is also a focus on unconscious emotions and past lives through the 12th house. Anita presented interesting research around emotions and trauma which can be passed down through generations. She talked about how science is now showing that consciousness needs no physical body. Our physical world is created by our consciousness which could explain the concept of past lives.

Alone time is needed to seek solitude and connection with the self. People with a strong 12th house focus need time away from the demands of daily life to maintain boundaries and find balance.

Anita gave excellent advice on how each planet in the 12th house can be expressed and worked with. Detailed slides about planets and signs in the 12th house along with aspects to planets in the 12th house supported Anita’s presentation.
