Speaker’s Report - February 2023

Autocracy vs democracy - Dr Neil Hair

Our speaker for February was Dr Neil Hair, Principal of the Sydney School of Numerology and President of the AANSW who presented a fascinating talk titled ‘Autocracy vs Democracy’.

Neil presented a well-researched presentation which began by outlining past conjunctions of Saturn and Neptune in their 36-year synodic cycle throughout the 20th century [1917, 1953, 1989]. This was put in the context of the societal and national transformation forecast for 2025 by French astrologer Andre Barbault in Planetary Cycles Mundane Astrology.

Barbault has described this harmonious line-up of Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto as the ‘most benefic configuration of the century’ and suggested this almost unprecedented configuration of outer planets could result in a ‘splendid relaunch of civilisation’.

The significance of this planetary configuration was put in proper context by explaining how it may come close in modern terms to the Grand Conjunction of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in Taurus in 578-576 BCE. This time period witnessed the emergence of several spiritual-religious figures and philosophies including Pythagoras, Confucius, Lao Tzu, Buddha and Zoroaster.

Neil explained the significance of emerging autocratic regimes such as currently exist in China, Iran, North Korea and Russia. He described the suppression that occurs in these regimes and gave examples such as the nationwide protests in China in late November 2022 in which President Xi Jinping was called on to step down over his strict Zero COVID policy. These protests were suppressed by an overwhelming police presence.

Evidence from historical timing regarding Communism points to the interaction of Saturn and Neptune which are essentially opposing astrological forces engaged in their Synodic Cycle. The central government, in an autocratic Single Party system, strives to keep full control of the reins of power, and this is where the Saturn aspect of the Saturn-Neptune duo fits in, “pressing down on the people” to maintain control.

The upcoming Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries in 2025 has set the scene for an existential battle between ʻAutocracy and Democracyʼ. Communism (or modified system with single party control) could rear its head again in 2025, but with significant modifications due to transformational influences of Pluto & Uranus.

Harmonious transformational aspects from Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini appear to be barracking for ʻfreedom and independenceʼ rather than ʻsuppression and controlʼ. This time period will extend into 2026 when Saturn moves on and Jupiter in Leo joins the party.

Following the main presentation, Neil reviewed some of the major events of 2022 and looked forward into 2023 from the perspective of astrology and numerology.
