As the calendar year 2011 draws towards a close, I would like to, on behalf of AANSW committee and members’, thank all those who contributed to another successful year. Special thanks must go to the AANSW guest speakers, who throughout the year have shared their wisdom with us freely. It has not all gone to plan this year with several last minute changes to AANSW guest speaker list, but everyone, together, has helped to encourage a constructive, functional and valuable outcome.
The world year reduced to a numerologically expressed 4 has been a real challenge as expected. The theme of this is articulated through the square, and astrologically speaking this has also been evident, with the cardinal planetary configuration of Pluto, Saturn and Uranus. This cardinal theme has been a battle between the old and entrenched ways and those who are seeking reform to what could be considered of no useful service. This energy has as such set in motion, altered, changed, remoulded and transformed, and in some cases annihilates altogether the old ways. This has not been an easy operation as the square does suggest no-pain, no-gain. And as sometimes realised we don’t always get what we had hoped for, compromise is not trouble-free.
The AANSW November meeting featured a panel conversation on Relationships; In Our quest for Astrological knowledge we form a Connection with something. What is it! The panellist included special guest Damian Rocks, with Chris Turner, AANSW Vice President Dr Neil Hair, AANSW Sectary Kate Holden and AANSW President Gregory Clare moderating. The discussion, which also included some interesting comments from the members, was an insightful and informative dialogue. On behalf of AANSW members I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts.
Our last meeting for the year is on Saturday December 10th, and will commence at 1:00pm with our end of the year Christmas celebration, which includes food and drinks. Followed by our special international guest speaker Kelly Surtees, Kelly’s topic is aptly named Jupiter Cycles, King of the Heavens: King of the Chart? As the largest planet, Jupiter’s influence in the chart deserves more than a cursory ‘lucky, opportunistic’ approach.
This talk explores the myth, history, magic and meaning of Jupiter, both in the natal chart and via dynamic influence. Come along to find out how to better understand your connection to this regal planet, and discover when it’s most likely to affect you (through transits & progressions).
So with all that said we look forward to 2012, and our first engagement for the year is a must attend event, “An Astrological Symposium; Weaving the Fabric of Time 2012 and Beyond” the 19th FAA International Conference.
AANSW members look forward to catching up in Melbourne with all those who share in our likeminded quest, Astrological enlightenment. Liz and Kirilly will be there as winners of our members competition for places at the conference.
AANSW has some wonderful speakers coming in 2012; the first meeting in February sees the return of popular AANSW vice President Dr Neil Hair, and his yearly forecast.
So please come along to our warm and friendly venue and share in an afternoon of astrological interchange with like-minded people. The venue is Drummoyne Community Centre, 10 Cometrowe Street, Drummoyne and doors open at 1:15pm on the 2nd Saturday of the month (except Jan).

Chris describes this lecture as an oldie but a goodie – and I think that members at the October meeting would have to agree. The lecture had a whole heap of information in it, which was successfully all tied together with all attendees having lots more knowledge about the Inconjunct angle of 150 degrees after 90 minutes. Personally my eyes were opened to more possibilities and opportunities to interpret a chart (and not just the quincunx as methods would apply to other angles). The lecture provided insights for the experienced and the learner astrologer.
Chris overviewed the roles of the astrological players, the planets as the character in a play, the houses as where the scenes are set, the signs as the moods and costumes and the aspects as dialogues. The planets, houses, signs and aspects are related to each other as a member of a specific family known as an archetype.
So what is an archetype? From a psychological view it is an idea, and instinctual pattern, a mode of behaviour. The planet is the main part of the family, the noun; the sign describes the how, the adjective or adverb, the house is the comfort zone and the aspect is the why or the motivation.
The quincunx is the angle that does not really ‘fit’. Chris explained this by taking us back to the circle of the zodiac – it is the main angle that doesn’t divide equally into 360 degrees. Chris explained her use of the angle relating it to the lunar path – the quincunx is applying when it is approaching the opposition, this is considered to the 6th archetype and 8th archetype when it is separating from the opposition. The quincunx is closer to the opposition and is considered more objective as an opposition is a balancing of two energies. When considering the quincunx there is the 150 degree and the 30 degree semi sextile so the points make an angle of conflict and challenge with one and a semi sextile to the opposition which is ease an opportunity.
The 6th archetype is that of a Mercury, Virgo flavour of discrimination, analysis and responsibility, a left brain quincunx. The 8th Archetype is that of Mars/Pluto and Scorpio, the conscious awareness of basic instinctual and psychological behaviour, a right brain quincunx. From the houses both have a health aspect – dis-ease something that needs healing.
Chris led us through each of the 12 archetypes describing the flavour of the two quincunx energy aspects – providing us with examples. For me these examples switched on a light bulb. Int he past I had considered only the actual angle of 150 degrees and had not considered other ways to apply the energies.
Chris demonstrated 4 examples of each archetype (with a person) and gave the key works for the energies. So what are some examples of quincunx energies 1st archetype?
Chris suggests that the quincunx is not a minor aspect, for the sun and moon an orb of 6 degrees is allowed, for other planets 5 degrees.
In the members forum we looked at charts with quincunx and delineate both well known personality charts and member charts.
I recommend borrowing the recording from the library when it is available – particularly so the south Coast members who can not always make it to Sydney as I am sure after Chris’ two visits this year presenting the archetype lectures to you will make this recording even more useful.
