President’s Report

Gregory ClareExpect the Unexpected; Light My Fire, Jupiter/Uranus in the Image of the Ram (Aries)!

Welcome to July Orbits, I’m pleased to announce AANSW had a full house for the June meeting. Guest speaker, Ed Tamplin, attracted much interest with his June Topic, Vocational Astrology Following Your Bliss. Ed presented an informative and professional lecture and on behalf of the AANSW we thank you, Ed, for sharing your thoughts.

AANSW from time to time hosts workshops for its members and guest, well standby, we have a great workshop coming your way! AANSW has arranged for interstate Astrologer Roderick Kidston to bring his expertise to Sydney for your benefit. Roderick began learning astrology in 1974 at the age of thirteen, from his self-taught mother.  An early fan of adding asteroids to the astrologer’s repertoire, he now finds it difficult to read a horoscope without the so-called ‘minor planets’.  The study of harmonics has also been a passion, and for more than a decade he has been investigating how harmonic patterns may explain both material evolutionary potential, and the inner workings and drives of the mind and soul.

Roderick will be presenting, The ‘Auxiliary’ Angles - Not Just Helpers in the Horoscope.

Please find the information in this edition or at our website, http://www.astrologynsw.com.au/workshop.html

AANSW next meeting Saturday July 10th promises to be another excellent presentation with APA president Patricia Shepherd sharing the Topic: The Oft Forgotten Semi-Square.
Patricia started her serious study of Astrology over 30 years ago and is an accredited teacher and Exam Board member of the FAA. Passionate about astrology but also aware of the Hippocratic Oath of “doing no harm” she holds a Diploma in Psychotherapy and Relationship Counselling (Jansen and Newman Institute) and a Graduate Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy (Illawarra Gestalt Centre). She founded the Wollongong College of Astrology in 1999 where astrology is used to promote self awareness and growth. Patricia is current president of the Association of Professional Astrologers and integrates her psychotherapy work with astrology as an Astrological Counsellor.

So please come along and share in an afternoon of astrological interchange with like-minded people. The venue is Drummoyne Community Centre, 10 Cometrowe Street, Drummoyne and doors open at 1:15pm on the 2nd Saturday of the month (except Jan).

June Report - Ed Tamplin

Following Your Bliss - Vocational Astrology

“The goal in life is to make your heartbeat match that of the universe”
Joseph Campbell

Ed Tamplin opened the lecture with the above quote, and believes that when people are experiencing vocational bliss they are using natural talents.  These talents can be found in the natal chart and during the lecture Ed gave us examples of the tools he can apply.  With Joseph Campbell providing the opening quote, Ed made Joseph the opening example.  Joseph Campbell was fascinated with myth and legend and wrote “The Hero of a Thousand Faces”, which puts forward that in all cultures the story of the Hero is vital to the journey of the people.  From these theories he is considered by many to be one of the most influential people on the 20th century as his ideas influenced Hollywood and from there movie entertainment.

Christopher Vogler clarified the Hero story into 12 steps- that is the basis of many a movie script; the call to adventure, the initial refusal, meeting a mentor, growth as an individual, facing a test through to success.  This is a link to a fantastic summary of the theory http://www.divineparadox.com/Arts/archetypes_on_the_path.htm

How was this reflected in Joseph Campbell’s chart?  23/3/1904, 19.25EST New York.
Aries sun conjunct Mercury and Jupiter – learning and being a scholar.

Neptune was very strong in his writing.

Investigating the astrology, Ptolemy wrote of professions in the “The Quality of Employment”, Book VI chapter VI.  The oriental planet – that planet rising just before the sun was important, as was the Sun and the sign of the Mid-heaven and applications to the moon.  Mercury – writers, accountants and literature, Venus – vendors of colours and dyes, Mars – metallurgists, stonemasons and soldiers.

There is a “Part of Profession” – this is the Ascendant + Moon – Saturn.  Gauquelin research has put forward influences of planets influencing the Mid-heaven and ascendant, Mars – sports champions and soldiers, Jupiter – politicians and actors, Saturn – science and research, the moon – writers.  Back to Joseph and his Mars conjunct descendant – he was a champion 800 metre athlete.

Timing is also of important, Joseph’s chart was triggered by Jupiter and Venus transits in 1931 and in 1933 when the ascendant was triggered he experienced a change from intense research to a professorship.  Ed’s personal example was progressed sun to a 3rd house Mercury – the start of radio work.

Noel Tyl’s Mid-heaven Extension Process is another theory, Mid-heaven sign and rulership (classical), dispositorship, planets near the MC, check stelliums and the Aries points.

Using these theories we were challenged with examples, Vincent VanGogh – Pisces MC, Venus conjunct Mars in Pisces, Jupiter (ruler) conjunct Moon square the MC – highlighting artistic ability and imagination.

David Copperfield – Mr Nice Guy- Gemini MC.  Observing the list there is a loop of Sun, Mercury and Venus connections reflecting work in entertainment, he sells ideas, works in public and is creative. The strong Mercury in 1st house – articulate and strong communicator – also 1st house is often a self-employed person.  Venus – the appearance and style.
Karl Marx’s chart has the Jupiter in the 11th, with Jupiter ruled by Saturn in Pisces – mutual reception.  He was involved with law and government, the 10th house Uranus represents the social idealism.

The Mid-heaven is the measure of how we will be “seen” by the world.  Find the story of the mid-heaven, look for a repetitive theme and there will be a calling that cannot be escaped from.

Research of John Addey – “Creative people very often seem devoid of anything really noteworthy unless the fifth and seventh series of aspects are observed.”  The fifth quintile represent creativity and the 7th the independent approach – often seen as being on there own wavelength.

We were then treated to many examples – astrology in action – Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Barbara Walters, Woody Allen, Spike Milligan and John Cleese.  A topic for further research is the septile – it is unique angles with a Uranian flavour, 7 represent a more inward reflection that leads to purity, it is the sage and expert – the genius and the often accompanying darkness.  There could be a predisposition to autism – genius is a field.

Another technique is Antiscia – the reflection point between the zodiacal signs along the Cancer/Capricorn axis – Stephen Speilberg’s Neptune was a focus and revealing point.

Winding up with Mundane predictions, the Eclipse was highlighted, and the grand cross, this will impact Korean diplomacy, the Neptune on the Venus, and 2nd house Saturn in Australia’s chart – the socialism of mining.  Kevin Rudd’s popularity continues to fall.  The sky has similar angles to 1982 – USA / Lebanon conflicts, and there are a lot of aspects that will affect the stock markets, so the bumpy ride is not over yet!

Dr Neil Hair also looked at some famous people to see what the numerology chart revealed with the astrology chart, Pope John Paul II showed incredible correlations, and for a bit of fun we considered if Australia is in the right profession.  The 8th house Sagittarius could support the regard overseas countries have for us and the Saturn in Rulership in the 9th – our purpose to educate the world could possibly be restricted by current changes to Visa...  Kevin Rudd and Barrack Obama were also considered.
